Band 8a: Matron for Ambulatory & Day Care Services – Clinical Haematology

An exciting and rare opportunity has arisen for an experienced haemato-oncology nurse to join the Clinical Haematology & Oncology Service, at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, in a senior leadership role as a Matron covering essential Ambulatory & Day Care Services.

The Clinical Haematology service based at Hammersmith Hospital continues to expand and drive forward innovative and therapeutic advancements in treatment pathways for patients with a wide range of haematological diseases and disorders. We have three haematology in-patient wards operating with a total of 54 beds, as well as, operating a busy and evolving day care/out-patient service. The post holder will have the opportunity to work in one of the leading specialist haematology centres, which runs one of the largest stem cell transplant (SCT) programmes in Europe.

At the heart of service development in recent years has been the expansion of day care services that has involved launching a seven-day service that includes ambulatory services for out-patient SCT treatment pathways, a nurse-led apheresis service, dedicated triage and assessment facilities, combined haematology/oncology chemotherapy day care services and a day pain service for sickle cell patients.

Working closely with the Senior Nurse for Clinical Haematology, the post holder will be a key member of the senior nursing team and extended multi-professional team providing a management and professional lead for nursing teams working across day care services. In addition, the Matron role will be pivotal in helping to develop and plan services for the future.

The Clinical Haematology service at Hammersmith Hospital offers all nurses a unique perspective and exciting breadth of experience in this specialty. We embrace a collaborative patient focused approach to care and take pride in promoting a strong team ethos and skilled nursing workforce. So if you feel you have the right credentials to make a valuable contribution to the team and to drive service improvement as a Matron then we may have an exciting job opportunity for you.
