Fast forward your renal nursing career at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust. With five world-renowned hospitals, we are full of opportunity for nurses who are starting out in nephrology services or looking for progression to develop new skills, get involved in quality improvement and collaborate with leading nephrology and transplant teams. Undertake our preceptorship programme with a mentor to guide and support you. Further training will be given on study days provided by our dedicated renal education team.

Fulfil your potential in hospitals that make history: Charing Cross, Hammersmith, St Mary’s, Queen Charlotte’s & Chelsea, Western Eye.

Join our dedicated team with a worldwide reputation as a centre of excellence and be part of the largest renal and transplant centre in Europe. The Imperial College renal and transplant centre based at Hammersmith Hospital is made up of four inpatient wards with 12 high dependency unit beds, an investigation unit of 18 beds for day case patients and three further wards which total 59 beds. We care for patients who present with various types of the following kidney diseases:

• acute kidney injury
• established renal failure
• patients undergoing both haematology and peritoneal dialysis
• patients undergoing kidney and kidney/pancreas transplantation
• patients on renal replacement therapy with other related problems such as cardiovascular, gastrointestinal, diabetes and orthopaedic complications.

Your role will cover three main areas – nephrology, transplantation and dialysis. Many of our patients are admitted via our own emergency admission pathway and you will be required to deliver acute medical and surgical care. To help you to do this we will support you to develop advanced assessment and patient management skills.

You will have the opportunity to work with our outpatient departments based at Hammersmith and St Mary’s hospitals seeing patients who have undergone kidney and/or pancreas transplants. There is also an acute dialysis unit on the Hammersmith Hospital site and eight satellite dialysis units providing patients with haemodialysis close to their homes.
For the ambitiously minded nurse we can provide a career pathway for you to train to become a nurse practitioner or a nurse specialising in the following: transplantation, haemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, diabetes, tissue viability or infection prevention and control.
